After having worked for a number of practices in South Africa, Mauritius and Canada, Tessa went out on her own in Plettenberg Bay in 2004.

The Planet Thing has grown over the years and now consists of a small team of young architects and designers: Luke Brown, Jacques Smit and Willem Maritz, while Tessa remains at the helm.

The name of the company, The Planet Thing, reflects our acute awareness of environmental issues and how architecture is shaped by the environment. Architecture also plays a vital role in influencing human impact on the environment, and it is the professional responsibility of our industry to make design choices that contribute positively to the well-being of this planet.

Our architecture reflects this passion.
